Mason Dean

Mason DeanMason Dean is 17-year-old Hip Hop sensation born and raised in Los Angeles. He’s not your typical teenager and not your typical Hip Hop artist in any respect. He sites his influences as Jimi Hendrix, Miles Davis and Michael Jackson, his favorite rap group is Run DMC and his Grandma is Whoopi Goldberg.

Mason started taking piano lessons at age five, he became so proficient at picking out notes, he later self taught himself the guitar and drums. He is one of those rare breeds of Hip Hop artists who produce’s as well as he raps.

“Mason is socially aware and inspired by his environment. When he writes he immerses himself in communities across Los Angeles looking for stories and ideas.“

He doesn’t sample, he creates all his own melodies, plays all his own instruments and like his musical heroes; his goal is to create a sound of his own that cannot be duplicated.

Mason is socially aware and inspired by his environment. When he writes he immerses himself in communities across Los Angeles looking for stories and ideas. His song “Problems” deals with racial profiling, making the point that it doesn’t matter if you are from a poor or wealthy neighbourhood, once you leave your house the police see you as another young black male suspect.

“Jesus piece don’t give me peace, imagine a place of equality, where skin is just a tone and it don’t determine what your job will be”

Mason has a unique perspective on life and music. His generation lives online, where Insta- celebs, Vine stars, and Reality TV goliaths clamber over themselves for their fleeting shot at fame. Mason remains grounded and tries not to get caught up in the materialistic selling out of his contemporaries, his goal is to stay constant and relevant.

Mason has performed all around the Los Angeles area; his recent shows at USC and UCLA have gained him an army of new fans. He tells his audiences to “be prepared for something different” and after seeing him perform, it’s clear to everybody in the crowd that Mason Dean is here to stay. He’s an honest artist, with an open mind and a heavy-duty work ethic, spending everyday in the studio crafting his original beats and rhymes.

Mason Dean’s new single “Know The Name” is currently available on Spotify and iTunes.
